Do you have favorite books? Does your intended? If you do you can use them as part of your reception décor. If you don’t you can search the thrifts for great titles, certain colors, sizes, old, new…..the possibilities are endless. I buy a lot of thrift books for their titles and colors. They are very inexpensive (the GW here now has books 3 for $1)! You can’t beat that and what a great way to have something unexpected at your reception. If your theme is vintage, the books don’t even have to be in great shape. You can use them in numerous ways. If the books are of substantial size, you can use them as pedestals for food trays, a way to have your candles at different heights on the tables, and dictionaries can be displayed open to certain pages, i.e. bride, groom, happy, wedding, you get the idea. Here is an example of using a dictionary. We had this one open to the page that had the definition for “blessing.” Sweet.
We also got all the bride and groom toppers at the thrift store. Remember when I mentioned you should start early when you are planning a DIY wedding. It took us a few months to come across all the books and the toppers. We also made the Mr & Mrs banner. It is made just like the “forever banner” you can see the directions for that here.
Below are books we collected to use at a recent vintage wedding reception. We selected them by title. Some are sentimental, some are funny, and some are just what?
Are you getting any ideas? You know this would be a great idea for any kind of party. Just collect the titles that would go with your theme.
Ok. one more I want to show you. This one is an old library book with a great dust cover.
See how this one is standing up you can use them that way on your tables, just clip a table number to each book. Hope this gives you some ideas. Enjoy
